Newspapers in Arts Education

Art teachers, you spoke, and we listened. We understand that you simply cannot turn the print replica into paper mache, or lay the print replica across tables to protect them from paint splatters. Thus comes the launch of our Newspapers In Arts Education program!

This program is open to K-12 public and private school art teachers, as well as self-contained teachers that lead art projects in their classrooms. You will be able to pick up old newspapers, and sometimes unused white paper, from The Oklahoman's production plant in northwest Oklahoma City. You can take as much paper as will fit in your vehicle. (Remember, we will not be able to deliver these newspapers to schools, just as we are not delivering the daily print newspaper to schools.)

Here's how the program works:
-Contact Kevin Robbins at (405) 475-3223 to arrange a time to pick up old newspapers. Standard pick-up times are 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
-When you come, you may want to ask if any end rolls--that's the plain white paper--are available in addition to past regular newspapers. Availability of end rolls fluctuates.
-At the arranged time, come to 9000 N Broadway, Oklahoma City, OK 73114. You will need to enter through the security gate along Britton Road. Tell the guard you are here to pick up paper for a school. The guard will give you instructions on driving to dock D, where someone will meet you to load the paper.
-You drive off with newsprint to use in all your students' art projects!

By the way, we'd love to see your students' creations with these newspapers! Please send photos to bhuntsman@opubco.com (photos may be used on the NIE website or blog).
