Cultivating Connection: Diversity and Inclusion

At this event we will be acknowledging the importance of diversity and inclusion in Oklahoma classrooms.  We will also be recognizing teachers, students and key individuals from organizations that supported Newspapers in Education during the 2018-2019 school year.  This event is a fundraiser to raise funds for the upcoming 2019-2020 school year. Through this event we will be recognizing teachers, students and key individuals from various organizations, including the 2019 Teacher of the Year and the 2019 BLUE Award Winner.   Those in attendance will also hear from a special guest that can speak to this year’s theme: Diversity and Inclusion. Our keynote speaker for this year’s event is Oklahoma City Mayor, David Holt.

This event is raising money to support Newspapers in Education’s program offerings through The Oklahoman.  NIE provides resources to nearly 30% of the total statewide student population by servicing over 210,000 Oklahoma students. According to the Oklahoma State Department of Education, 67% of the schools being served by our Newspapers in Education program are schools in which 50% or more of the student body participated in the Free Lunch program during the 2017 – 2018 school year.
