SOARING OKLAHOMA –ENTRIES DUE MARCH 30, 2018
SCAVENGER HUNT: The number of jobs available in the state of Oklahoma, that exist within the Aerospace & Defense Industry, is growing every day. Often, we think about the more obvious positions within this industry, pilots and aircraft mechanics, but the number and types of careers available might surprise you. Ask students to submit their answers to the Aerospace Scavenger Hunt.
WOMEN IN THE INDUSTRY: Ask students to research and identify a woman in the United States that has made a significant contribution to the Aerospace & Defense Industry. Students should focus on that woman’s life in terms of her background, education, career and specific contributions to the industry. To successfully complete this activity, students will need to do the following: 1) Identify and properly cite 3 credible resources (encourage students to use newspaper articles, interviews, video footage, etc. – their focus should not be on internet articles alone and at least one resource should be a Primary Resource) and 2) Create and submit a Powerpoint Presentation that is 5 – 7 slides in length.

LAW DAY – THIS CONTEST IS NOW CLOSED.
Oklahoma is keeping its tradition of celebrating Law Day in a big way. The Oklahoma Bar Association has been celebrating Law Day more than 60 years with activities and events taking place over several weeks and in dozens of counties. Oklahoma lawyers donated tens of thousands of dollars in legal services giving free legal advice, and the Law Day message reaches more than 4.5 million Oklahomans annually.
Congratulations to Lillie, student at Rongey Middle School in Kiefer, for being the winner of our Fall 2017 student contest. Lillie submitted an entry to the Law Day 2018 contest and won a Visa gift card. Her teacher, Kara Green also won a Visa gift card since one of her student’s submissions won!
CONGRATULATIONS to Ms. Melissa Lau and Dakota from Piedmont Intermediate.
They were our Fall 2016 Contest Winners!
Ms. Lau won a $500 Visa Gift card which she says she plans to use to purchase Microscopes for her classroom. Dakota won a $250 Visa Gift card.
CONGRATULATIONS to Melonie and Mrs. Garone!
They were our Spring 2016 Contest Winners!
Melonie’s History Day entry was drawn as our student winner for the Spring 2016 semester. Both Melonie and her teacher Mrs. Garone were given the option to receive an iPad OR a $500.00 Visa Gift Card. Melonie graciously chose to share her gift card with her classmates that helped her with her submission. Below is a note from Mrs. Garone:
I have a wonderment for you…. The kids all opted to share the prize if anyone of them on their team won it. Melanie was in a skit with four other students. They signed a pledge to share, so is it possible to get five $100 cards instead of just the one? I am so excited because there are some things that we have wanted to buy to help us with our National History Day programs–but no extra money(as you well know for schools now a days). Now, I will now be able to purchase these for the school. Wow! So, please yes, the gift card for me too. – Nellie Garone Mannsville School
