Mind Matters
In Brief: Mental health is a serious issue that deserves the serious attention of this program.
Full Description: Mind Matters will help you teach your students about serious mental health subjects, including mental illness, alcohol and other drug use, childhood traumas and coping skills. This program is generously sponsored for schools by the Oklahoma Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services in partnership with the federal Safe and Drug-Free Schools Program.
Awards: Mind Matters won first place in the NIE category of the 2010 Midwest Circulation Managers Association awards. Mind Matters also won second place in its class in the category of Innovation Awards / Best Ideas in the 2009 National Newspaper Association’s Best of Newspaper In Education contest. Here is a selection of the judges’ comments: “Terrific idea! Great focus on a difficult topic for kids to understand. The supplement was a great classroom aid and also good for parents. Well-written and informative, and also takes away the stigma of mental illness. Enjoyed the use of crossword puzzle.”
