The Oklahoman’s Summer Reading Contest

The Summer Reading Contest is open to ages 5–12 and runs each Sunday from June 7 – July 26.

Eight weekly winners (one from each week) will be selected to receive a set of books.  A grand prize winner will be selected at the end of the contest to receive an e-Reader courtesy of The Oklahoman.  The deadline for entries is July 31.

You can submit your entries using the form below.

Activities will also be published every Sunday in The Oklahoman.

June 7 – Week 1:  Look at a copy of The Oklahoman or Oklahoman.com at home or at your library. Name a foreign country highlighted in today’s paper or on Oklahoman.com. What country is it and what is the headline of the story?

June 14 – Week 2: Look at a copy of The Oklahoman or Oklahoman.com at home or at your library. What is the main story on today’s front page or the main page of Oklahoman.com?

June 21 – Week 3: Look at a copy of The Oklahoman or Oklahoman.com at home or at your library. Create a new caption for one of the pictures in today’s paper or on Oklahoman.com. What section of the paper or website is the picture in and what is your new caption?

June 28 – Week 4: Look at a copy of The Oklahoman or Oklahoman.com at home or at your library. What is the headline of one story that has an accompanying online video?

July 5 – Week 5: Look at a copy of The Oklahoman or Oklahoman.com at home or at your library. Find The Oklahoman’s or Oklahoman.com’s Weather page. Look at this week’s temperatures and compare them to another U.S. city listed. Looking at the high and low temperatures, which city is cooler this week? What is the low temperature in each city?

July 12 – Week 6: Look at a copy of The Oklahoman or Oklahoman.com at home or at your library. Find the stock listings in the Business section or the Business Page. Did the Dow Jones Industrial Average stock market index go up or down?

July 19 – Week 7: Look at a copy of The Oklahoman or Oklahoman.com at home or at your library. What sports are highlighted through photographs in today’s paper or on Oklahoman.com?

July 26 – Week 8: Look at a copy of The Oklahoman or Oklahoman.com at home or at your library. In the Classified section or the Classified page, find an item that is for sale. What is the item and how much does it cost?
